When They Were Young: Ronnie Belliard

Ah, the good old days.

Ah, the good old days.

This 1997 Bowman card shows the Tankass as a young man, a year when he would go 282/379/406 at AAA Tuscon. He had some decent speed back then, surprisingly stealing as many as 33 bases in the minors and knocking 8 triples. It’s odd to see him without the hair that he has these days, as seen here:

Peep the braids.

Peep the braids.

So there were some flashes of the player he would eventually become, but some surprises as well. He’s fallen off a bit this year, but I think that’s to be expected of a 34-year old middle infielder. We salute Tankass.
