Mmmm, delicious cards…

LeFlore BK Card

I have a vague recollection of getting baseball cards at Burger King in 1980…no Expos, though, and this seems to have been the only Expo from that set. I really didn’t know much about Ron LeFlore, so I had to look him up. He was apparently a crazy speedster, stealing 97 bases in 1980 to lead the league.  Of course, he had an OBP in the .340s most of his career, which probably contributed to him being forgotten overall.

Still, he was important in 1980, apparently. God bless ye, Ron LeFlore.

  1. I’m not so sure that he was forgotten–he is a pretty recognizable person because of his backstory. He was discovered while in Prison and signed to a professional contract while there, he then went on to be a starting major leaguer in just a few years. He’s had problems with the law since stemming from Child Support issues. Still, he is one of those players that people remember for the jail connection alone.

Ahh…okay maybe just forgotten by me, or overlooked. Very interesting! Thanks for the info. The more you know…
