2007 Topps Update #2

2007 Topps Update #304
Nationals Also-Ran
Position:  SS/2B
Bio/Summary: D’Angelo Jimenez has a career 94 OPS+ (decent for a middle infielder) and a career 3.3 UZR (again, decent enough for a middle infielder. So why hasn’t the guy stuck? Well his awful attitude has a lot to do it. He’s been a trouble-maker pretty much everywhere he’s gone, and I was happy to see him get the boot in 2007.
Rating: 3/10 – Dirt-standard spring training shot. But I do love the 2007 design.
2007 Topps Update #41
Nationals Also-Ran
Position: OF
Bio/Summary: I’ve seen Langerhans do some impressive things in his time with the Nationals, but overall, he’s just a mediocre replacement-level player. Unfortunately. Maybe not even that; his highest overall Value Over Replacement Player (VORP) has been 3.6, last season, but he was in the negatives before that.
Rating: 5/10 – Pretty classic pose, and I think that’s RFK in the background, judging by the seats.

Chris Schroder
2007 Topps Update #317
Nationals Also-Ran
Position: RP
Bio/Summary: Every single time I saw Schroder at a game, he was doing well, and his VORP holds out: 10.1 in 2007. So I’m not sure I understand why his 08 playing time was so curtailed. Whatever, he’s in Oakland now, and I hope he does well there.
Rating: 7/10 – Nice shot here…not sure what stadium.

Jason Simontacchi
2007 Topps Update #37
Nationals Also-Ran
Position: SP
Bio/Summary: I was never crazy about the idea of Simontacchi being a regular starter. Dude was just awful in 07, and hasn’t resurfaced since.
Rating: 4/10 – Average spring training shot. Yawn.
