2009 Topps Nationals #6
Category: Nationals Lynchpin
Bio/Summary: And I’m convinced he could be a Nationals star with enough playing time, which is going to be hard to come by with this crowded outfield. I mean, okay, his numbers have fallen each of the last few years, but I think that might have been a function of reduced playing time. The guy has some talent, even if he is hitting 30.
Rating: 7/10 – Okay, here’s one where I KNOW I could do a better Photoshop job. It looks like they just did an overlay on that helmet, which I’ve done before, and better. At the same time, it’s pretty cool to see Willingham in a “Nats” uniform, so thumbs-up for that at least.
Category: Nationals Star
Bio/Summary: Zimmerman needs no introduction, really. He is who he is, in terms of the team. The face of the franchise, all that. And hey, how about that hit streak? 23 now!
Rating: 8/10 – Curious about whether that’s a home run or a fly-out. Oh, and it’s a pretty good picture, with only a hint of the “glow”.
Category: U.S. President
Bio/Summary: Teddy started out with Single-A Potomac, batting .283 in 2006. Seriously, this card is in the set because of Teddy’s performance in the Presidents’ Race that the Nationals have each game, a tradition that started out as kind of cute and is now a bit annoying.
Rating: 6/10 – The card is kind of cool, but what is with the obsession with Presidents in baseball cards lately? It’s annoying. I remember a time when stuff like this was regarded as oddball and kind of looked down on…now it’s almost mandatory.
