2008 Upper Deck Team Set #6

Jon Rauch
2008 Upper Deck #165
Nationals Lynchpin
Position: RP
Bio/Summary: I’ve talked about Rauch before, but he bears mentioning again. I miss the guy; he was just so much fun to watch. It’s rather fortunate, though, as he seems to have dropped off the shelf with Arizona. Of course, in 07 he pitched a league-leading 88 games and had a 117 ERA+.
Rating: 7/10 – Great shot. I’m not sure where this was taken, but I like the action shot a lot.

Dmitri Young
2008 Upper Deck #167
Nationals Lynchpin
Position: 1B
Bio/Summary: Steak grows on Dmitri! Odd choice to get a pic of the guy playing defense, since he’s so lousy at it. Dmitri was a hell of a story in 07. Coming back from domestic abuse and diabetes issues, he ended up as the Nationals’ all star. I was personally torn about him, given the domestic abuse issue, but he did provide some fun at the games and hell, he’s just so goofy looking you can’t help but laugh.
Rating: 8/10 – Appears to be a game at home against the Phillies; it looks kind of like Chase Utley.  Of course, the Phillies played the Nationals so much it’s almost impossible to tell when this game might have been. Great shot, though.

Ryan Zimmerman
2008 Upper Deck #694
Nationals Star
Position: 3B
Bio/Summary: Zim hasn’t been an all-star for the Nationals yet, and I’m kind of shocked by it honestly. I mean, yeah, he hasn’t quite lived up to his potential yet, but he hasn’t been a huge slouch, either. He’s been good this year, so maybe this could be his year.
Rating: 9/10 – Classic shot of Zimmerman.

Dmitri Young and Ryan Zimmerman Checklists
2008 Upper Deck #767, 367
Rating: 9/10 – Da Meat Hook’s card is the last one from the Bacsik/Guzman trilogy that were shot at the Metrodome. Zimmerman’s is from the classic where he hit a game-winning home run off of Chien Ming Wang to seal a dramatic victory against the Yankees on 6/18/2006. Makes me wonder if they got that pic from another source.
